Events
Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service has a busy calendar of community engagement events throughout the year.
Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MAWWFRS) is offering free electric blanket testing sessions at several Fire Stations across Ceredigion this October.
As autumn turns to winter, many households will be taking electric blankets out of storage to help keep heating costs down. While electric blankets can be a great, cost-effective way of staying warm, it’s important to check them regularly to ensure they remain in good working condition.
To support residents, members of MAWWFRS's Community Safety Team will be carrying out free electric blanket safety checks, inspecting blankets for potential faults and signs of wear that could increase the risk of fire.
During the testing sessions, electric blankets will be checked for:
- Frayed or worn fabric
- Scorch marks or signs of overheating
- Exposed or visible wiring
- Damaged controls, plugs or connectors
- General wear and tear that may affect safe operation
Community Safety Team members will also be available to provide practical advice on fire prevention and home fire safety, helping residents reduce risks and stay safe throughout the winter months.
Sessions at Ceredigion Fire Stations:
- Aberystwyth Fire Station – 9am-12pm on Thursday, October 1st
- Aberaeron Fire Station – 2-4pm on Thursday, October 1st
- Lampeter Fire Station – 9am-12pm on Monday, October 12th
