Thanks to the quick thinking and awareness of Swansea Central’s White Watch on Saturday, 6th June, crews were able to prevent two potentially life‑threatening situations. Their vigilance not only highlighted their professionalism but also demonstrated the vital role they play in keeping the community safe.
Following raised concerns by Swansea Central White Watch, a TAC Officer and members of the Business Fire Safety (BFS) team joined Swansea City Council Housing Officers and South Wales Police for a joint visit to a residential property. Working together, the teams carried out a thorough assessment which resulted in the Local Authority issuing a prohibition notice. As a direct outcome of this intervention, three occupants were safely rehoused, ensuring they were removed from an unsafe environment and given immediate support.
While returning from the incident, Watch Managers Phil O’Shea and Simon Jones (BFS) encountered a separate emergency. They came across a person standing in the middle of the road who was experiencing a mental health crisis. Without hesitation, and going above and beyond the call of duty, they stepped in to safeguard the individual. Their calm, timely intervention protected the person’s welfare and ensured they were safely transported to hospital for the care they needed.
Head of BFS, Group Manager Mathew Roberts, said:
“This incident is a prime example of Business Fire Safety and Central Response working together to ensure public safety and provide effective intervention.”
Thank you to Swansea Central’s White Watch and the BFS team for their professionalism, compassion, and commitment to protecting our communities.
