Recently, members of Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service’s (MAWWFRS) Business Fire Safety (BFS) Western Division team from Haverfordwest successfully worked in partnership with Oakwood Care Group and staff at Williamston Nursing Home to significantly enhance fire safety provisions at the premises.
Following a fire safety inspection, collaborative work between inspecting officers, care home staff, and contractors led to the identification and replacement of several key fire doors throughout the building.
These upgrades have strengthened fire compartmentation and created a safer living environment for residents, enhancing protection and supporting effective evacuation and in the event of an emergency.
This positive outcome highlights the value of proactive partnership working, combining technical expertise with a shared commitment to the safety and wellbeing of vulnerable residents.
Gary Smith, Fire Safety Manager at MAWWFRS said:
“This is a strong example of what can be achieved through effective collaboration. By working closely with the team at Williamston Nursing Home and Oakwood Care Group, we were able to identify key improvements and ensure that vital fire safety measures, such as compliant fire doors, were installed. “These enhancements will make a real difference in protecting residents and staff, and it underscores our shared commitment to maintaining the highest standards of fire safety within care environments.”
The Western BFS team continues to work closely with care providers across the Division to promote high standards of fire safety and support continuous improvement within the sector.
