A Joint Fire Control Firefighter at Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MAWWFRS) has become a Welsh Champion.

Firefighter Chance Morgan recently claimed first place in the Brown Belt Masters 2 Lightweight (76kg) division at the All-Stars Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) Wales competition, held at Cardiff House of Sport.

Chance’s victory follows a significant turnaround for him, following a challenging period that hampered his ability to train and compete.  Having returned to competing earlier this year and winning gold at the Pro Sport Grappling competition in Newport in February, Chance suffered a significant anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, which required months of rehabilitation and putting his competitive plans on hold.

Speaking about his victory, Chance said:

“I’m looking forward to building on this momentum over the coming months, with the ultimate goal of once again reclaiming the British Open title in May 2027 after winning this previously.”

A former Infantry Soldier with the Royal Welsh Fusiliers 1st Battalion, Chance uses his platform in the sport to raise awareness of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) recovery.

Chance continued:

“Raising awareness of PTSD recovery is something that’s very important to me, following my own operational tours of duty with the 1st Battalion.  I’m also proud to represent my gym, Nails Fight Centre, my sponsor, Violent Therapy, as well as MAWWFRS.

I look forward to continuing my competitive Jiu-Jitsu journey and, hopefully, adding a few more medals along the way!”

Everyone at MAWWFRS congratulates Chance on his achievement and wishes him continued success as he pursues his goal of returning to the top of British Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
