Throughout the evening and into this morning (Thursday, August 13th), our crews continue to deal with a number of significant wildfire incidents across Mid and West Wales.
These incidents remain complex and resource-intensive, but they are being managed by emergency services, with support from our partners, helping to ensure we have the resources needed to protect communities and respond effectively.
Recent warm and dry weather has created conditions that can allow fires to spread quickly, and firefighters remain focused on protecting communities, property, infrastructure and the environment.
If you see flames, or believe life or property is at immediate risk, call 999.
If you can see smoke from an incident, please be assured that fire crews are likely already in attendance and there is no need to call 999.
We are asking the public for your help, as these wildfires are placing considerable pressure on resources.
The Wales Wildfire Board's #WildfireWise campaign reminds us all to take simple precautions when enjoying the outdoors and to avoid activities that could unintentionally start a fire.
We are asking everyone to:
- Don’t light anything outside that could create a spark that causes a fire
- Stay away from the areas where emergency services are dealing with incidents
- Don’t fly drones in the area, as they can disrupt emergency operations and pose a risk to the incident operations - including helicopter operations
- We have seen instances of deliberate fire setting, please report any suspicious behaviour to police by calling 101
- Follow any local restrictions or safety advice in affected areas.
For residents affected by smoke, we advise you to keep windows and doors closed where possible and follow public health advice. People with existing respiratory conditions should take extra care and seek medical attention when needed.
Emergency services and partner organisations will continue to work together to monitor the situation, provide support to affected communities and keep the public informed as incidents develop.
