Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MAWWFRS) recently joined colleagues from the Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS) for a multi-agency training exercise designed to enhance operational readiness and strengthen partnership working.
The exercise featured a range of realistic scenarios, providing MAWWFRS crews with valuable opportunities to work alongside EMRTS personnel in a dynamic training environment. The session enabled Firefighters, including those in development, to further develop their decontamination and hazardous materials capabilities, while gaining a greater understanding of the specialist clinical procedures, decision-making processes and skills used by EMRTS at trauma-related incidents.
The day concluded with a complex multi-agency scenario, allowing all participating organisations to put collaborative working arrangements and the Joint Emergency Services Interoperability Principles (JESIP) into practice. Working together in realistic conditions helped reinforce the importance of effective communication, shared situational awareness and coordinated decision-making during emergency incidents.
Training exercises such as these play a vital role in strengthening inter-agency relationships, enhancing operational understanding and ensuring emergency responders are prepared to work together effectively when communities need them most.
