On Boxing Day 2024, the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service crews from Llanelli and Gorseinon Fire Stations responded to an incident at Bigyn Park Terrace in Llanelli.

Crews responded to an 82-year-old casualty who had fallen in their home and fractured their hip.  The casualty required urgent medical attention, but due to their medical condition, it was not possible to carry them down the property’s stairs.  Crews utilised Morriston Fire Station’s turntable ladder appliance to safely remove the casualty from a first-floor bedroom window.  The casualty was then put in the care of Welsh Ambulance Services Trust (WAST) paramedics and conveyed to hospital by road ambulance.

This incident demonstrated how the Fire and Rescue Service crews used their expertise and specialist equipment to swiftly rescue a casualty in need, as well as multi-agency collaboration with the WAST.
