On Tuesday 19th May, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service’s (MAWWFRS) Business Fire Safety (BFS) team came together for a day focused on training, development and recognition.
The day included learning sessions with several key stakeholders and a local supplier specialising in smoke control systems for residential buildings. We were pleased to welcome:
- Joint Inspectorate Team (JIT) - Rob Ellison, Principal Environmental Health Advisor
- Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) - Liz Wallwork, Senior Manager Adult Service Inspector
- Rent Smart Wales - Bethan Jones, Operations Manager
- Systemair - Michael Washbourne, Specification Design Manager
The session provided valuable insight into partner organisations we work alongside in Fire Safety, as well as technical learning on smoke control systems. It also supported our Fire Safety Inspecting Officers in maintaining their annual CPD requirements and gave support staff a clearer understanding of the department’s work.
We also celebrated team achievements, with certificates presented to:
- Tom Wass - Xact Level 3 – Auditing Simple Buildings
- Neil Stephens - Xact Level 3 – Auditing Simple Buildings & Planning and Gathering Evidence
- Corissa Rees - Xact Specialist Course – Welsh Health Technical Memorandum (HTM)
- Martyn Field - Xact SFJ Level 4 Diploma – Fire Safety
Thank you to all guest speakers for their time and contributions.
Overall, the day strengthened departmental skills and highlighted the professional development taking place within the team.
